World No. 1 Wang Chuqin of China made swift work of 19th-ranked Shunsuke Togami of Japan, winning 11-9, 11-8, 11-5 in the men’s singles second round at the WTT Singapore Smash on Tuesday, February 24, to book his place in the round of 16. Wang’s next opponent is 16th-seeded Anders Lind of Denmark.
Fellow Chinese star Lin Shidong, the third seed and reigning Singapore Smash men’s singles champion, also moved through comfortably, dismissing Kazakhstan’s Kirill Gerassimenko 11-6, 11-8, 11-1. Lin will next face wild card paddler Lim Jong-hoon of the Republic of Korea.
Not all Chinese men survived the night. Zhou Qihao was sent packing by France’s Flavien Coton in four games — 12-14, 11-6, 11-3, 11-7 — in a result that brought cheer to the French camp. Coton will now face a stiff challenge in sixth-seeded compatriot Felix Lebrun in the next round.
Men’s Singles — Round of 32 Results
In men’s doubles, Lin Shidong and Huang Youzheng battled from behind to eliminate Singapore’s Clarence Chew and Josh Chua 7-11, 11-7, 11-9, 11-3, advancing to the quarterfinals. Their next opponents are the German eighth-seeded pairing of Benedikt Duda and Dang Qiu.
